Many departments offer minors and certificates as additional areas of academic specialization. Each minor or certificate has its own set of requirements. To explore your options:
- Check the academic department’s website to see what is offered and what the requirements are.
- You can also browse all approved minors and certificates in the MU Catalog or on the MU Majors website.
- Students can also explore their options by “trying on” a minor or certificate in Stellic.
How to Declare a Minor or Certificate
You can declare a minor or certificate online through the Declaring a Minor and Certificate form. Log in using your MU PawPrint and password. Once you submit the form, your request will be reviewed by the department, and you’ll receive an email once it has been approved.
When to Declare a Minor or Certificate
It’s recommended that you declare a minor or certificate after completing about 6 credit hours toward it. Minors must be officially declared before graduation to be awarded.
Additional Notes
- Minors can only be awarded if you complete a degree.
- You cannot earn a minor in the same area as your major. If you’re unsure whether a minor overlaps with your major, consult your advisor.
- If you change academic divisions (e.g., from A&S to Business or from CAFNR to Engineering), you will need to re-submit your minor or certificate declaration.
To monitor your progress, run a degree audit using the degree planning tool Stellic.
