Majors & Degrees

Electives

Most degrees require you to complete a certain number of total credit hours. In some programs, your general education, degree program and major requirements will account for most of those hours. In others, you’ll still need additional credits even after all required courses are completed.

Electives are optional courses you choose based on your interests or goals, but you must still complete the required number of elective credit hours to graduate.

Electives can help you:

  • Explore new subjects
  • Build complementary skills
  • Customize your academic experience
  • Prepare for future career or graduate school pathways

Your advisor can help you identify elective options that support your goals or simply help you discover something new.
