Registration Holds

What are Registration Holds?
Registration holds are blocks placed on your student account in myZou that prevent you from registering for classes, receiving transcripts, or accessing other university services. These holds can be related to academic, financial, or administrative matters.

Common Types of Holds

  • Academic Holds: These are often placed if you need to meet with your academic advisor before registering for classes. It’s important to schedule a meeting to discuss your academic progress and future course plans.
  • Financial Holds: Financial holds occur if there are outstanding balances on your student account, such as unpaid tuition, fees, or fines. To remove this hold, you must resolve any unpaid balances.
  • Administrative Holds: These may include holds related to missing documentation, such as proof of immunization or issues with your student records, or university sanctions.

How to Check for Holds

You can view any holds on your account by logging into myZou and navigating to the Notifications tile. In myZou, you’ll see the specific hold, the reason for it, and the contact information for the department responsible for the hold. This allows you to take the necessary steps to resolve the issue.

Steps to Remove Holds

  1. Identify the Hold: Log into myZou to see the type of hold and the department responsible.
  2. Take Action: Follow the instructions provided by the department, such as paying an outstanding balance, meeting with your advisor, or submitting required documents.
  3. Contact the Relevant Department: Reach out to the department indicated in myZou to understand the requirements for removing the hold or if you need additional assistance.

Why It’s Important to Address Holds Promptly

Holds can prevent you from registering for classes, which can delay your academic progress. Addressing holds as soon as they appear ensures you stay on track with your studies and avoid any unnecessary complications.
