Support Resources

Some support services are provided to all students, others are available to specific groups of students. A description of a few of these services is provided below. If you don't find in this list the kind of support you are looking for, contact your advisor for additional resources and suggestions.

  • Academic Exploration and Advising
    Academic Exploration and Advising Services provide one on one academic advising and major and career exploration assistance to students undecided about their choice of major. If you don't know what you want to major in or you are majoring in something you no longer like or are succeeding in, this is a good place to start. Advisors will help you explore your options, work effectively within the University bureaucracy, and connect you with additional academic resources.
  • Academic Retention Services
    Academic Retention Services provide mentoring, support, and help with the transition to college. One of the larger programs offered is the MAP program which serves a large number of minority students.
  • Career Center
    The
    Career Center provides assistance with major & career exploration (in collaboration with your advisor, if you wish), resume writing, interviewing, job search, on-campus interviewing and placement services.
  • Counseling Center
    The
    Counseling Center provides free one on one, group and couple counseling to assist students cope with personal concerns. In addition to the professional staff there to help you, you will also find an extensive self-help library, a biofeedback and stress management clinic, and a variety of testing services.
  • Office of Disability Services
    The
    Office of Disability Services provides services to and accommodations for students with disabilities. Students who need accommodations must register each semester with the Office. Professional staff interview students and review documentation to develop appropriate accommodations. Documentation guidelines, services available, tips for effectively communicating with students with disabilities, and maps of accessible campus facilities can be found on their Web site.
  • The Learning Center
    The
    Learning Center provides a wide array of tutoring services to undergraduates. Professional staff and student tutors help groups with material in many lower level general education classes, most lower level math courses, and composition classes and other classes requiring significant writing. They also provide assistance with general study skills, one-on-one tutoring for low-income and disabled students, and preparation for GRE and LSAT tests.
  • Mizzou Office for Financial Success
    The Mizzou Office for Financial Success is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the financial well-being of individuals and families by providing affordable, unbiased education and counseling in all areas of personal finance.

  • Writing Intensive Tutorial Services
    Writing Intensive Tutorial Services provide the same type of writing assistance to students enrolled in Writing Intensive clases.
  • Writing Lab
    The
    Writing Lab staff provide assistance writing papers for non-WI classes at any level of the writing process--from brainstorming for a paper to improving editing skills and word processing skills.
  • Total Person Program
    The
    Total Person Program is the academic support unit for student athletes at the University of Missouri. This program provides services including, but not limited to, tutoring and academic mentoring, monitoring of academic progress, academic counseling, and career counseling and programming for personal and social development for all student athletes on campus.
