Changing a Major
Declaring Major | Changing Major | Major Requirements | Double Majors
As students are exposed to new information and experiences they often change their minds about academic majors and career goals. If your goals have changed, you will need to change your major, too. How you do this will vary according to:
- How many hours you have completed.
- Whether or not the new major has an application process.
- Whether the new major and the old major are in the same or different academic units.
It is generally easier to change majors if you are a freshman or a sophomore. However, many juniors and seniors do change majors. Because all majors have grade point average requirements (anywhere from a 2.0 to a 3.0 and above), it is always easier to change majors if your grades are above the minimum required.
The process for changing your major will parallel the process and timeline requirements for officially declaring a major. Remember that it is important to be enrolled in the proper major so that you are given accurate and timely information and have access to the resources you need.
